A Texas schoolteacher falls in love with pulp writer Robert H. Howard during the 1930s. A career woman reassesses her parents' lives after she is forced to care for her cancer-stricken mother. His mother always plays this dizzy part, like she did on Evening Shade , with Burt Reynolds. This is an excellent little film, which shows Renee Zellweger at her delightful best opposite the commanding Vincent D'Onofrio. The two couldn't be more opposite, sharing almost nothing but their uniquely passionate romance. This is Americana.

How sad to go through life ,without him. It may have had a 24 day shoot, and a $1.3 million budget, but it's a beautifully crafted film, with superb performances from Vincent D'Onofrio and Rene Zellweger. Based on a true story, ignore the Mills and Boon blurb on the cover of the newly-released Region 2 version - it's not like that at ALL - sit back and enjoy. This screenplay is beautifully written, from Novalyne Price-Ellis's true book she wrote herself, covering her relationship with Robert E. Howard. "Whole Wide World" is a song written by English rock singer-songwriter Wreckless Eric, who wrote the song in May 1974, and recorded it in 1977, whilst an original member of the Stiff Records label. And this is a happy story, until it isn't. Valentino is an Ex Adult film star very much in love with his girlfriend Mary Carmen....and boyfriend Gary. I had never heard of this movie, and at the time it came out in 1996, I was working too many hours to even know what was in the movie theaters. Vincent's portrayal brings out Renee's character beautifully; how could she not act like she did, working against such an amazing actor. It depicts the relationship between pulp fiction writer Robert E. Howard (Vincent D'Onofrio) and schoolteacher Novalyne Price Ellis (Renée Zellweger). In 1933 Texas, a schoolteacher and aspiring writer meets a pulp fiction writer, and a relationship soon develops between the two, but it is doomed by his slavishly devotion to his ailing mother and insistence on his freedom. She seemed so enamored that he was a published writer, but he seemed to behave like a 15 yr old, and I got tired of the dialogue, so I fast forwarded through chunks of it. Too much loud and nasty arguing and fighting between the two main characters and why those two stayed around each other is a mental health issue that is disturbing to say the least.
