Tim Thomerson blasts his way through many bad Trancers dude in his sarcastic and wry style - the scene where he tells a well toned body-builder (Michael McGrady) that his tan suits Christmas well is brilliant as are many of the daft remarks. Jack Deth (Tim Thomerson) is a detective in the future who's sent back to 1985 to stop a madman who's decided to kill the ancestors of the city council of Deth's time. This sci-fi entry comes across as a charmingly trashy amalgam of BLADE RUNNER (1982) and THE TERMINATOR (1984) – not as good as either, sure, but arguably more entertaining. Was this review helpful? Well, this little underrated gem surely will erase any preconception you have about it as soon as it starts. And I'm also not sure what exactly it is that inspired so many sequels but I think there is something to be said about the swagger and conviction of Tim Thomerson's performance.

In the early 1990s, my Friday and Saturday nights were spent at home watching movie after movie of whatever I could find in my local video store. The film has some fun and seeing a young Helen Hunt in action was an interesting surprise.

Our hero Jack Deth (played to perfection by Tim Thomerson) is a detective from the future who kills mindless trancers (zombies) and he has to go back in time to stop Whistler, the man who is turning people into trancers and is also trying to kill the high councils (the leaders from the future) long lost relatives so the high councils never would of existed at all. Terrible effects with dreadful acting and some almost Ed Wood style moments of corn and action...plus the plot is surreal and incomprehensible at times.

The time period is somewhere in the 1980's. Sidney Poitier’s 7 Most Memorable Performances The story takes place in Angel City in the year 2247, when enforcer Jack Deth (Tim Thomerson) has just retired from the weekly grind after vanquishing villain Martin Whistler (Michael Stefani) and his roving cohorts, called "trancers." It's cheap, sure, and suspiciously second hand (time travel schtick ripped off 'The Terminator', hard boiled Bogartish main character probably via 'Blade Runner', neither idea original anyway), but it knows its limitations, and is entertaining in a trashy way.
